I’ve had a few friends reach out to me this week asking about pre-travel/travel skincare tips, specifically for these cold winter months. I thought I’d share some of the things I do to help prepare for the elements!
Hydration is key
Whether it is internal or external, I try to do my very best to consume as much water as possible and put as much moisture into my skin as possible. This includes upping my water game the day before a flight and making sure I do a hydration targeting mask. Last night I did a Papa Recipe Bombee Black Honey Mask topped with Laneige Special Care Water Sleeping Mask to ensure my skin was really ramped and ready for my 5am flight tomorrow.

Start 24-48 hours before flying
As mentioned above, I try to get into skincare hydration mode the day before my flight. My routine the before/day of will remove chemical exfoliation (ish, I didn’t really do that this time but ordinarily and especially on long haul flights I always aim to remove AHA and BHA products) to ensure that my skin isn’t overly sensitive or dried out.
Bring Refresher or H2O Spray
I like to keep a few travel size refresher mists handy (my personal favorite is Mario Badescu) in the event that my skin becomes too parched for comfort. A small water mister like Evian is a great addition as well. It allows you to get that quick boost without having to cart around an entire arsenal of products, which is obviously ideal!
Be gentle as possible
Overall the most important thing to remember is be gentle to your skin! I always try to keep my long term skincare goals in mind rather than short term (ie get rid of trouble spots ASAP) because it will just be more challenging than it’s worth.
Products I’d recommend
If you don’t have a specific brand in your lineup, I’d recommend investigating items with green tea, rice, tea tree, or honey as feature ingredients and make sure that alchohol is low(er) on that list! The latter is very drying and won’t be doing any favors for travel skin struggles you may endure.
